Located in northwestern Montana, the Mission Mountains are part of the Flathead National Forest between Missoula and Kalispell. The mountains are notable for their abrupt rise from the valley floor - climbing some 6,000 ft (1,828 m) without any foothills - making them a scenic and hard-to-miss range. Two different wilderness areas protect most of the range.
