Four Winds Historic Village and Trading Post The Four Winds Historic Village and Trading Post features historic buildings that have been moved to the site from the surrounding area, in order to replicate how the region was settled and what it looked like many years ago. Big Hole National Battlefield The Big Hole National Battlefield is located ten miles west of Wisdom and was the site of the historic Battle of the Big Hole on August 9 and 10, 1877. Visitors enjoy the self-guided tours that relay the events of the battle. Rangers conduct tours of the battlefield throughout the summer months and there is a visitor center that educates visitors. Berkeley Pit in Butte The Berkeley Pit Viewing Stand allows visitors a view of the former Berkely Pit, a huge truck-operated, open-pit copper mine that operated between 1955 and 1982. The pit is 7,000 ft (2,133 m) long and extends to a depth of more than 1800 ft (548 m). The pit is now considered to be one of the biggest clean up sites in the United States and millions of gallons of water flow into the pit each day. Admission is free. Camp Disappointment Camp Disappointment is the northernmost point reached by the Lewis and Clark Expedition. It is located on the Cut Bank River east of present-day Browning and is called "Camp Disappointment" since the Lousiana Territory did not stretch to 50 degrees north latitude, contradictory to their expectations. Camp Fortunate Overlook Camp Fortunate Overlook was a significant stop on the Lewis and Clark Expedition. At Camp Fortunate, Lewis and Clark met the Limhi Shoshoni Tribe who accepted the journey that the group was on. Lewis and Clark stashed their canoes and supplies for the return journey at Camp Fortunate. There is a historical marker along the highway relating the event. Karst's Camp Karst’s Camp was originally a dude ranch that was founded in 1901 by Pete Karst, but today it is a ghost town. At one time, Karst ran a successful resort with 25 cabins, a bar and a brothel. The original cabins are still standing and are occupied today but the ski lift and the camp no longer exists. Creston Fish and Wildlife Center Open year round, the Creston Fish and Wildlife Center allows visitors to see the outdoor hatchery facilities. Fingerlings and older fish are visible in the outdoor raceways. A popular activity is picnicking along the creek and bird watching. Butte-Silver Bow County Courthouse The County Courthouse was built in the early 1900s and exemplifies the ornate and elegant Beaux Arts style that was popular at the time. Costing an enormous amount of $482,000 to build, the Courthouse features pilasters and tall columns that echo the grandeur of ancient Greece and Rome, and a uniformity of materials, design and height for the cornice line.
