The Powell County Museum relates the history of Deer Lodge through displays and photos of the area. There are over 22,000 photos of events and people from Powell County. The museum is open from Memorial to Labor Day.
The Frontier Montana Museum houses two of the finest collections of Western memorabilia. The collection includes many different types of guns including the Colt Lightning Pistol made by Billy the Kid. Desert John's Saloon which dates back to the 1800s is also located within the museum, and many antique liquor bottles are also on display.
Yesterday's Playthings Museum features over 1,000 dolls of all descriptions and sizes. The dolls range from china dolls from 1860 to modern day Barbie and GI Joe. Other exhibits include toy trains, soldiers and many other antique toys from the past century.
The Montana Law Enforcement Museum is located in the historic Montana State Prison. The MLEM was created, owned, and operated by Montana's criminal justice professional associations to collect, preserve and publicly display the historical artifacts and memorabilia of Montana's rich law enforcement history. Exhibits include crime prevention and public safety.
